I have been preaching ever since the third Sunday in August, 1887. I was converted at old Young Church in Marshall County, Alabama, at the age of 18. I had never heard the Gospel of Christ until that day and it was to me as a two-edged sword. It turned every way for cutting. It was then that the Kingdom came unto me. Christ had come into the house of old Satan and given him to understand that he "must get out of Talley." I was so happy that everything around me semed to be praising the good Lord. I felt like I never would see any more trouble, but would praise God the rest of my days. Forty-two years have passed since that time and I have had a mixed cup---sometimes up and sometimes down. I don't feel like it's any good thing that I have done that saved me. It is alone through the goodness and mercy of the good Lord. It is by grace that I am saved through faith and not by works.".
